Facility, Power, Control and Environment covers introduction to electricity, instrumentation terms and units, process control, level measurement, pressure measurement, temperature measurement, flow measurement introduction, liquid flow measurement, flow measurement gas, resume writing, programmable logic controllers (PLC), supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA), product, chemical and waste storage, waste disposal and vegetation management.
The goal of the course is to increase the learner’s understanding of instrument shut downs and variables, the limitations and advantages of instruments and ways to better utilize data acquired from these instruments. This course is delivered completely online with instructor support. A suggested course schedule is provided within the course material. Students have 4 months to complete the course.
Course content is available online on D2L. Students must have access to a computer and internet in order to view course content and complete course requirements. Students will be able to print the content off in D2L to keep or study from if they wish. Quizzes are not available to print.
Material will include: course manual, online discussions, videos, quizzes, tests, and exams.
The course manual is broken up into 16 learning outcomes, including 1 quiz per learning out come.
In addition to the learning outcomes and quizzes there will be 1 mid-term, and 1 final exam. Examinations can be written with an approved offsite proctor.
A course extension option is available. The fee for a one month extension is $150.00. Students must request course extensions in writing to the Program Coordinator a minimum of 2 weeks prior to the course end date. All extension requests must be submitted to energyconed@lakelandcollege.ca and are subject to approval.
