
Learn how to artificially inseminate (AI) cattle. Geared specifically for cattle people between the ages of 12 and 18 that want to know how to inseminate, but do not make all of the background decisions for artificial insemination. Must be mature and have basic cattle knowledge. The hands on portion is the same as the producer course, they will be able to artificially inseminate cattle when they leave. The only difference is the junior course does not cover background material such as sire selection, estrous cycle, insemination timing, heat detection, synchronization, reproductive diseases, and nutritional effects on reproduction.
Topics include:
- insemination procedures and techniques
- reproductive anatomy
- palpation
- AI equipment and costs
- semen tanks and handling
- pregnancy testing
All AI materials needed for the course will be provided. You will be given your own manual and AI gun to take home. Barn conditions are very wet and can be cool depending on weather. Dress in layers as you will be back and forth between the barn and the classroom. Please be sure to remove all jewelry, tie back long hair and cut nails short for the safety of you and the cattle.

- pen, paper
- old t-shirt
- coveralls- preferably disposable or other splash proof clothing
- disinfected rubber boots- do not need to be steel toe
- water bottle

COVID-19 Protocols:
All people coming on campus must provide visual verification upon arrival of
one of the following:
- Proof of having received two doses of an approved COVID-19 vaccine
- Proof of a medical exemption
- Proof of a negative privately paid test result from a sample that is taken within the prior 72 hours
3-ply face coverings must be worn in indoor public places.
