« back to classes page
ClassGraphic Go forward in the industry, Lakeland College has developed this online program to evaluate and validate well site supervisor competencies.

Choose from either the Drilling supervision or Completions supervisor certificates.  This competency based program is a 3 step process:
  1. Optional knowledge review and self-assessement, a review of the competencies.
  2. Quizzes - timed, 90% required to pass
  3. Onsite assessment by a regional validator
You'll use our online learning management system, Desire2Learn (D2L), for your online coursework including the reviews and quizzes.  After you complete the online quizzes, you'll notify Lakeland of online completion and request an on-site validation.  Please note:  Onsite validations are temporarily on hold due to COVID-19.
Program Requirements:
  • At least 5 years of direct experience as a well site supervisor OR
  • A minumum of 1 year (250 onsite working days) as a well site supervisor with 9 additional years of oilfield experience
  • leadership and business experience
We'll need:
  1. A resume indicating your work experience.
  2. A reference letter from an employer (current or previous) confirming the well site supervisor experience as well as leadership roles.
Note:  A Master Validator must sign off on your work experience.

*Annual Fees $175 *Annual fees are currently not due

*On-site Validation and Fees:
The Master Validator will coordinate your appointment for an onsite visit with regional validator. To reserve your onsite validation time with the regional validator, the minimum fee is $1795.  You don't pay until the onsite visit has been scheduled.  You must pay the minimum of $1795 up front.  Once the regional validator has conducted the on-site validation, you will be notified of the additional expenses. Additional expenses will be incurred if travel beyond a 24 hour period is required to reach the on-site validation destination.  You pay the validator's expenses including mileage, accommodations, meals and car rental as well as wait time (daily rate) and expenses that are required to complete the onsite validation.  Note:  Currently validation fees aren't applicable.

*Annual Fees:
One of the goals of this program is baseline competency in the industry.  The system requires upkeep.  In particular:
  • to stay up to date with industry recommended practices
  • for certificate holders to maintain and enhance their skills and knowledge.
If you have a certificate, you are responsible for keeping it current in the system.  This is similar to other occupations with an annual certification of licensing fee.  It also means industry can rely on wellsite supervisors to have the necessary skills and knowledge.
You'll receive an email before your certificate expires.  This includes renewal instructions.  It might also include a new requirement to keep your certificate current.  If you do not renew your certificate, you will forfeit your current certification.
Please note:  Annual fees are currently not due.
