Power engineering is not an apprenticeship trade but is divided into levels of skill and training. These levels are referred to as classes, starting with 4th class power engineering and working up to a 1st class certification. Work experience and course completions followed by rigorous inter-provincial examination allow you to progress from one class to another.
To become a 3rd class power engineering you must:
- Hold a complete and valid 4th class power engineering certification
- Complete 4 examinations - not in order - A1, A2, B1 & B2, and in addition:
- Complete 12 months of industry steam time in an approved plant
By completing the Lakeland College online 3rd class courses you may reduce your time in half to 6 months.
