This Credit and Risk Management course is designed for people of any age with any financial background. This content is to help you better understand credit within the agriculture industry. In the current risky economic environment, credit should be managed as closely and as carefully as other production inputs. Like seeds and chemical, agricultural credit options are changing and expanding with new and innovative products and can be complicated by legal concerns. This course will help break down concerns in credit and risk management while allowing producers the opportunity to better manage their financial affairs.

Course Format:
Continuing Education is excited to offer Credit and Risk Managment as a component of our Business Management and Finance Micro-credential. Micro-credentials create great laddering opportunities into diploma programs here at Lakeland College and also showcase a level of competency has been reached in a specific field. A student who completes all courses under the Business Management and Finance Micro-credential will receive a certificate to share with employers and industry members.

This course will take approximately 15 hours to complete online, 3-5 hours a week and students will have one month to complete the course. Upon registration, you will gain access to course content the folllowing Tuesday. This course will allow for students to apply their knowledge to solve real world problems that are encountered within life in agriculture. 


This course outlines a practical approach to:
-Evaluating loans.
-Establish short and long-term financial objectives within your operation
-Understand debt service capacity of your operation
-Understand the farm’s ability to service debt
-Understand the levels of uncertainty within your operation
-Create provisions that reduce uncertainty
-Learn the language of credit to create understanding when manage your finances
